Earth 353 was introduced along with that world's batman... Kal-El from Krypton who was adopted by the Wayne family... in Superman 353, cover date November 1980. Earth 353 was created by Bob Rozakis and Curt Swan. ("The Fantastic Foe Superman Could Never Meet!", "The Secret Origin of Bruce 'Superman' Wayne", Superman 353#, DC Comic Event)

Have I seen the Mary Tyler Moore show before? No. Do I still think of 70s and 80s Superman as a comic book version of the Mary Tyler Moore show? Yes. We have around the same size supporting cast, largely all tied to the workplace at the Daily Planet. Some characters really fit the mold, while others take some more stretching. But let me still hit everyone with my pitch/comparison:
Perry White is just Lou Grant. Why Ed Asner never did Perry White, I have no damn clue. He was built for that role. Mary Tyler Moore is naturally Lois Lane. Clark would be sort of like the second major lead, I suppose. The Superman comics are different in that they really have three main leads: Clark, Lois and Jimmy. So they'd sort of all be the leads, with the Mary Tyler Moore esque role. But Steve Lombard is just the character Ted Knight played. They both have an obnoxious, but not necessarily malicious quality to them. Lana Lang fits in here somewhere, as does Josh Coyle. And Morgan Edge... I don't know, but he would still work in this sitcom style.
Really, Galaxy Communications is just a sitcom setting. The Daily Planet and it's TV branch, with all the workplace drama a big city like Metropolis can afford. Why Morgan Edge, Josh Coyle and some of these other characters aren't talked about much anymore, I have no clue. Because Superman was riding high in the 70s and 80s! I think the Crisis on Infinite Earths fucked everything up (pardon my language) with DC Comics. The reset just ruined everything.
#i hate how the crisis on infinite earths changed stuff#superman deserves to still be in this 70s and 80s style#with elements of the silver age blended back in#superman#clark kent#kal el#lois lane#jimmy olsen#perry white#morgan edge#steve lombard#lana lang#josh coyle#dc comics#dc universe#dcu#superman comics#70s comics#80s comics#anti crisis on infinite earths#the mary tyler moore show

today was sickening: brady tkachuk crying in his media appearance following josh norris trade, brady’s wife posting a picture of josh with their baby saying “uncle josh”, marchand (the last member of the 2011 cup team) being traded, charlie mcavoy posting pictures of him, marchy, brandon carlo, trent frederic, and charlie coyle on his story, charlie coyle being traded off his home town team, scott laughton being traded away from his children (teammates), zetterlund out of san jose (poor ekky, mack, and will), logan stankoven being traded out of Dallas and so many more
the only good parts were: erik johnson is returning to the avalanche and brandon tanev returning to the Winnipeg jets

Justice, suspense, and action collide in #JackReacher (2012), where #TomCruise steps into #LeeChild’s gritty world. From eerily quiet beginnings to explosive noir vibes, this adaptation of One Shot delivers thrills but does it capture Reacher’s essence?🤔

I don't know why DC's crisis on infinite earths had to erase all the fun stuff about pre-crisis supermans. This was a comic from the early 80s, and I love how Superman already has such a big supporting cast. Lois, Jimmy, Morgan Edge, Perry White, Lana Lang, Steve Lombard, Josh Coyle, etc. He also had like 500 different supervillians already. You can't beat pre-crisis superman. But DC made the idiotic decision to reboot everything. I blame them for me not liking modern comics very much. (Action Comics #563):

thoughts about trade deadline moves from someone who has been almost completely checked out of this season and has only a vague idea of what's been going on (chronological)
trent frederic to oilers: fuck you don sweeney
michael bunting to predators: bring him back to the eastern conference IMMEDIATELY so i can watch his games next season thx
brian dumoulin to devils: i kinda like this? the vibes are there don't ask me why
brock nelson to avalanche: i mean. it's a move on the isles part for sure. i know very little about the dudes he got traded for but iirc in the past couples of seasons he's been way more consistent than the brocktober of old
anthony beauvillier to capitals: either let the boy settle down in one place or put him back where he belongs
josh norris and jacob bernard-docker to sabres: deeply upsetting. cozens seems like a great acquisition from what i know about the dude, but steve staios is a homewrecking slut
mikko rantanen to stars: the dallas-carolina rival finn collecting has taken an interesting turn of late with carolina haemorrhaging finns. more at 11
scott laughton to leafs: SCOTTY LAUGHTS???????? NOT A FLYER??????? he's going to fade into the background so fast and i'm really goddamn upset about it
charlie coyle to avalanche: fuck you don sweeney. also mittelstadt is going to get eaten alive
joe veleno to hawks: disgusting 0/10
brad marchand to panthers: FUCK you don sweeney i'm underneath your bed, machete in hand,
brandon carlo to bruins: don sweeney sure is doing a great chuck fletcher impression! can't wait until he gets fired
erik johnson to avalanche: finally some good fucking news
shea weber to hawks: has he not officially retired yet
#personal#you'd think i haven't been watching because i've been knuckling down with uni and going to bed at reasonable hours#alas i have just not had the emotional bandwidth because of things in my personal life torpedoing my mental health#but it's still fun to talk about
